About Symposium The purpose of the biennial symposium is to provide a venue for scientists and clinician-investigators interested in eosinophils to meet, exchange information and develop collaborations to advance research in the fields of eosinophil biology and the pathogenesis of eosinophil-associated allergic and other diseases. The symposium showcases new research findings related to the production of eosinophils, their trafficking, their effector functions, the use of animal models to explore the importance and role of the eosinophil in health and disease, translational studies of animal model findings into patient-oriented research, and the development of new therapies of eosinophil-associated diseases.
Thematic scientific sessions include invited plenary speakers who will give state-of-the-art and shorter more focused presentations of ongoing research. Submitted abstracts will be presented in poster discussion sessions, and some will be selected for oral presentations and incorporated into the general meeting in the thematic plenary sessions. Importantly, the program provides significant free time in the afternoons for attendees to meet informally for the purpose of discussing science and developing collaborative projects and interactions, a key aspect of these biennial symposia purposely integrated into the scientific agenda and program |

Special Highlights of the 2007 Symposium |
As a highlight of the 2007 symposium, discoverers of interleukin-5 (IL-5) will be recognized and will present the Ehrlich lectures. Their presentations, and others on the development of anti-IL-5 therapeutics, will form a mini-symposium on IL-5. Another special feature of the 2007 symposium is a joint session with the Intermountain West Allergy Association (http://www.iwaa.org) on eosinophils in respiratory & gastrointestinal diseases. This session will take place on Friday July 21. Lastly, the American Partnership for Eosinophilic Diseases (APFED) (http://www.apfed.org/) will hold their annual patient education conference on July 20-22 at Snowbird in conjunction with the IES meeting. |
